I MUST BE CRAZY BUT I AM RESLLY THINKING ABOUT GETTING ONE! Can anyone tell me anything about this outstanding pike? Are males more colorful than females?what is there temperment?are they hard to keep/prone to hole in the head?anything would be helpful.

If you've never kept Crenicichla I suggest you do all the research you can. They do present a few challenges, so make sure you are prepared and not caught with your pants down. The main thing is the HITH can be an issue if you are not careful, but the same goes for most species from pristine environments.

They are great pikes, and are definitely worth the effort. Absolutely gorgeous, quite possibly the best looking Crenicichla available to the hobby right now.

Too late !My impulses got the better of me .I just got one in from rapps along with a p-bass.MERRY CHRISTMAS! I'm going to do another water change and try my luck.ITS time to put up or shut up!

The best advice I can give you on this fish is too make sure you have more than adequate aeration. They seem to perish easily when aeration is sub par.

I agree with the above post. I'm getting a female and she's going in my reef tank with a Rotkeil Severum and a pair G. Geayi. I'm very excited about trying a Pike again. This has been at the top of my wish list for some time and it will be a christmas present to myself.

Mark ~ You think having a couple of extra powerheads in there to simulate rapids would do the trick? These guys seem like they would enjoy being in a tank with Retroculus, lots of current and lots of oxygen.

That gives me an idea for an awesome biotope now! LOL!

the fish are doing fine .they are in a 180gal.tank with a wet/dry filtration .the pump is rated at 1800 gph, also I have a wisper 500 hangon filter.the multispinosa is adjusting well an eating freeze dried krill.I was worried about my other pike an Atabapo2 but after some initial gill flaring and some posturing all is well.the multi reigns supreme.I will post pictures as soon as my post is answered in the questions forum on how to do it!

Glad it's doing well but I can't imagine just dropping a new, super expensive wild-caught fish into a community of pikes and other cichlids with either quarantine or acclimation. Big risk to the fish you bought and the fish you already have...
