Murky pond remedies?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You could put an air stone in or a little fountain to splash some water to help oxygenate the water.

More water lettuce could help... my 5 acre pond got covered with it, choked it out, only "good" part is that it *really* cleared the water up...

You can make a UV sterilizer with just a black light and some way of getting water past it...

i had the same problem but turned out to be dirt suspended in the water collum so i changed my pond filter media from a single filter pad to a bed of gravel with the mat on top.

my pond was clear in a day . :D

I have two waterfalls and a powerhead, and an airstone with air pump going. They are still right at the top getting air. The water isnt really getting any clearer. I have had 2 fish die in the past day :(

Oh, and to make things worse it looks like they are getting ich. I put some ich cure in, hope it helps.

Poor water quality is making them more susceptible to desease and fungus.

Have you done W/C's?

I think you should get one of those kiddie pools (blow up kind $20.) and set it up as a hospital pond. Fresh everything, use some stress coat and make sure your ich medicine has formalin & malachite green in it and add some salt. Clean the air hoses and stone, powerhead with a diluted bleach and rinse very well and put them in the new pool.

Then drain the pond , clean & disinfect it and the filter and pump(s) and start fresh. Dechlor the fresh water, use bottled bacteria to kick-start the filter. I would do a fishless cycle since there has been so many problems. Add a capfull of pure ammonia from the drugstore (on soaps or additives). Add a second capfull after 24 hrs. Then watch the water chemistry for the filter to start working (check the water coming directly out of the filter).
