Muscle problem

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Like everyone said, it is totally normal. That's what always happen when you stop working out and then go back at it at full effort.

Also, its not advisable to soak yourself in warm water after a workout. Ice cold water is your friend after a workout. Ever seen athletes train? Ice bath right after right?

Give yourself 5 days to recover and then work out again and progressively increase your effort and the weights you are lifting. Also. recovery drinks helps well.

I pretty much summarized what everyone said above except the ice water part.

sore from a good work out. soreness will go away when u start lifting seriously.

i went to the gym monday with a buddy. i haven't lifted anything serious in forever, So i gave myself a good workout. Tuesday i was feeling very tight in the arms. i assumed i was normal tightness after a workout. It's now Thursday and i can't straiten my arms correctly. It's Very painful to try to do so. I don't know what i did and don't know anything about the muscular system. I know some of the MFK'ers here work out alot, so anyone that knows feel free to post. If i don't get anything here i'm going over to WebMD.

This is a normal occurance for Biceps and Quads ;) Keep stretching every couple hours or less.. Also when you wake up it will hurt like hell to stretch but do it anyway. The more movement you have after the stretch the less it will hurt throughout the day.. But when you relax you will notice for maybe the next 4-8 days that it will be alittle painful and then toward the end it will almost tickle... Still keep the stretching up and WATER!!! Water is a key ingredient here!! Water is life blood!!

Creatine and Glutamine are also excellent cheap workout and recovery DO's!! ;)

I would say either you just didn't give your body the right nutrients before workout of you strained a muscle. Get some multi-vitamins and swig some orange juice. You're body is using a lot of what you have right now to rebuild muscle, no one likes getting sick from weakened immune system.

Ice packs followed by a good hot bath with help with the immediate problem, as well as gentle stretching (well it won't feel good as your doing it!). Since you have muscle tissue damage from working out (that's what all after workout pain is) you don't want to put too much more. Gentle stretching and massaging, however, will be good.

Before you workout get a good endurance blend. I really like these because they are set up in the 4:1 carbohydrate/protein blend that your body utilizes best to rebuild muscle. Half before and half after will keep you working out longer, and your muscles from hurting after. Plus the type made by Twin Labs (pretty cheap, you can also get most any of the stuff made for cyclists) has glutamine and lysine already in this. Sure you can go the natural way, just with food, but this will help your body maximize what it can do and leave you in the least amount of pain.

:iagree: And there are many more products available from Twinlab than just cyclist.. that just is the current promotional direction ;) The previosu five years were focussed on Lee Priest and Bodybuilding :)

On that note if you want to build some muscles make sure you take in lots of PROTEIN.. You should get around 1 gram per lean muscle mass..

whey protein is your friend.

Unless you are working out regularaly and on a tough training schedule, daily natural intake of protein is best in my opinion Mainly because you under work or leave out some muscles when get fit... And you get a protein belly instead of muscle. So I would stick to daily diet protien until serious body building begins.

if not matched properly to the intake of other nutrients in your body excessive protein intake will do you no good. The most important thing in physical fitness? Proper nutrition. Sure, you can take 150-200 grams of protein a day... but you will just pass it out the other end if you aren't in line with everything else.
And get fat and or bloated look ;)

thanks for the info everyone. very helpful :)

hope you feel better soon... keep us updated..

hey XR, having an amazing backround in physical training and mixed martial arts/wrestling, id say you either didnt give your body enough nutrients after working out or your bodies jsut under nourished.... you have to remember , when aorking out you need lots of protein and carbs beleive it or not, breakfest is a good place to start, you want to give your body proper nourishment for optimal muscle growth, because when hungry or malnourished the body will break down muscle mass for nourishment, also you do not want to hit the gym so so hard right off the bat, you want to build a basses to go hard at, you should be fine in afew days, lift very light in the meantime to stretch your muscles, message me if youd like more info or a good workout routine, feel better

lol you've probably strained a muscle. take some ibuprofen (or some other anti inflammatory), apply a heating pad and take it easy. next time stretch out before AND after you work out..

all better, thanks guys!
