Ive got a question can i have mushroom coral in a 55 gallon tank with 2 48 inch marineglo 40 watt bulbs. Its a shop light or would i have to have 3 bulbs.

Thanks for the info Mr reef i hope to have a tank full of different kinds of mushrooms.Do you think the dogface puffer or the niger trigger would give me any problems with the coral. Some say there reef safe others say there not.

they are reef safe with caution which means that for sessile inverts are lunch your mushroom corals will be fine but if you frag them or put your hand in there to get them u may get a little nip from them lol

I hung up 2 shop lights so i have 4 bulbs 3 blue marine glo and one plant growing bulb for 160 watts can anybody suggest some corals i can have with this much lighting can i have the ones that are moderate to high or should i just get the ones that say moderate or moderate to low mayby soft corals.

Most puffers will at least try any coral (or live rock) put in the tank at least once. They explore things by biting. Mushrooms they will leave alone after the first bite. Most soft corals except for star polyps seem to taste nasty to my blue spot toby - he has tried all of them but only ate some of the polyps. Found that if you feed at regular times and have a few cheap snails or hermit crabs in with a puffer, they leave the corals alone (well mine does).

I decided not too get the coral i dont think i have the right lighting no bulbs probably wouldnt be enough for soft coral and the puffer even bites peaces of the live rock off.I took the other shop light down i just got 2 blue marineglow bulbs probalby better for coralline i thinK the plant growing bulbs grow green hair algae.Im just going to stick with the fowlr. Probably need about 4 t5 ho bulbs for a reef or even better a metal halide.Im not going invest in the lighting to expensive right now.
