Muskie feeding and climate requirements

I know I cant see much of the tank, but is there any cover?

There is an area of artificial plants that section off an area in the back right side of the tank. I also have some driftwood seasoning to be added to the tank with artificial hair grass sprinkled around it. I want to keep a large, fairly open area on the left side. The plants on the right are 12-16" and create a nice screen for some privacy. I will have to rethink decorations as he gets larger, but it seems to work well for now. I'll try to rememeber to get a full tank pic once my driftwood is in.

Cool, sounds like similar native designs that I used when I kept Esox niger Cant wait for the full tank shot

i keep and breed northern pike, i currently have a really nice pair of 6 " pike in a 800 litre aquarium (6.8ft long) i keep my tank at 20 degrees, with a constant water flow and feed minnows (my own bred stock) got a breeding pair in my pond and they feed on anything i chuck in really lol dead rats/mice frozen baby chickens, they also have the odd large rudd/roach and maybe a few carp (these all come from my own stock) and the pond is 5500 gallons so pretty big ! :)

I have never kept pike or muskie before now. Is your 6” pair of pike breeding size? Not sure when these species are mature. I do not intend to breed at this point, but I would assume my 8” muskie is not of breeding size. Also, what is the GPH flow on your 800 liter tank (total and filter). Thanks for your input, I’m still debating optimal current.

i have kept pike for years, bred them and provided stock for many fishing pools. my two 6" pike are no where near breeding age, my breeding pair of pike are close too 25" in my 5500 gallon pond, i use wave makers to keep the water in my tank moving, and 3 filters, the biggest filter is a 2500lph with a 9w uv steriliser, and a 1000lph and a 900lph so filtration is massive, also got myself a really large air pump as aereation is so important for these fish. you will see how fast these fish grow so you probably dont want feed everyday, i feed every 2-3 days and i only feed minnows because they are a naturally oily fish and the pike digest these very easily! obviously the bigger pike eat more of a varied diet. you will probably need a pond soon to see this fish grow properly, i also find putting oak tree leaves in the tank to give the blackwater effect provides the fish a more natural environment to live in, the temperature in my pond at the minute is 7 degrees, and the tank indoors is 22 degrees (room temperature) i will be building another 800 litre tank soon as i have got fry i need to grow out they are currently 2-3 inch.
