Musky with white edges on his fins

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
He's not wild caught. Can't say much else. :naughty: If he was wild caught he'd be illegal to possess. And yup, they get big.

So what about this white stuff on his fins?

Finrot. What are your water parameters? Do daily water changes until it recovers. You can add Melafix and Pimafix to aid recovery and prevent further infection.

Hmmm does it look fuzzy or slimey at all ? Or like the fins are dissolveing souns like fins rot or it might just be the normal coloration of there fins

Heres the best pic I could get. Notice his pelvic fins. Its on his pect and anal fins also. His fins dont seem to be rotting, just cloudy on the edges.

My water parameters are pretty much normal. I do weekly 15% water changes. There are 2 other fish in that same tank and they don't look like this. The bio load is light. I dont currently treat with any chemicals.

This fish is a tiger musky correct. That is a man made hybrid of the muskie, and northern pike. These animals do not do well in captivity. EXTREMELY VUNNERABLE TO NITRATES. I worked with red finned pike (essox americannus) bred them for 6 years. Had to do daily water changes on these animals like discus. Daily water changes should cure the problem. Ion exchange resins will help also. Fish in the Essox family are very picky about water quality, anyone up north can tell you that the best muskie and pike waters are pristine, this is not a sunfish (ie. bluegill, warmouth, or others) which are almost bulletproof.

Wow, great info. I didn't know that about the esox family. I really try to keep the nitrates under control, but I had no idea they were that sensitive. I'll do whatever it takes to get this right, starting immediately with more water changes.

Hate to sound ignorant, but what are ion exchange resins?

Thanks so much for your reply.
