Please recommend any public aquariums you have visited in the US and Canada that deserve a special mention particularly with a freshwater theme.

Yes Atlanta is definitely on my bucket list, and an ultimate road trip to get there if I avoid the interstates!

Did you check out Ripley's Aquarium in Toronto ? I believe its there . Im not sure since I have never checked it out or even have gone that far for a few years . But I did read some good reviews on it. Happy hunting !

Im gonna represent the Shark Reef at the Mandalay Bay hotel here in Las Vegas. They have decent FW section, including arapaima, arowana, giant gouramis, pirahna, and much more. It is a fairly small aquarium overall, HOWEVER,I believe it has the largest single tank (saltwater shark tank) west of the Mississippi.

Aquarium of the Americas in New Orleans is the coolest one I have seen ...... With a Mississippi river section (huge gar and paddle fish) and upstairs was a huge Amazon river setup with *lots of FULL grown cichlids. I have not been there since Katrina(in which I heard they had some casualties)so I can only hope it is still there and as cool.

Go two hours north of Atlanta to Chattanooga, TN. The Tennessee Aquarium is WAY better. I went there many times. I only went to Atlanta once. I liked the Baltimore Aquarium mainly because of the rays.

Adventure Aquarium in Camden New Jersey and the Aquarium in Baltimore Maryland are the only two I have been to and they are nice.

The greatest aquarium in the country... The Shedd Aquarium.
