Must Visit Public Aquariums of North America? (FW focus)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
MUSTs are Monterey Bay Aquarium and Shedd Chicago

Baltimore and Boston are very good. I really liked New Orleans but I have not been back since the hurricane and they redid it

Joining the National Aquarium is a great deal: it's about $150 for a year pass for my whole family...when a single adult pass is like $35.

The best part is that we can take our time and just focus on one area...and then grab some lunch...or go to an Orioles game...and not have to worry about having not seen everything.

The other bonus of National Aquarium Membership is that they have lots of Members Only events. I brought my daughter to the premier of the new 4D Ice Age Movie the other night (for free)...and got to wander the Aquarium when it was closed to everyone else but Members (maybe a hundred or so people total). They had free snacks and wine for a few bucks. Earlier this year they had a Jeremy Wade (River Monsters Guy) as a guest speaker... very cool as well!

Last time I went to the one in Dallas, I saw some pacu in a nice tall aquarium. It's been awhile though and it's small. If you're aiming at Dallas, I'd head to Galveston and visit the Moody Gardens pyramids. They have some freshwater there. The Downtown Aquarium restaurant in Houston has a little freshwater room too. They had a mata mata turtle last I went.
