I'm leaving it out three feet from the wall on both the back and the side. My glass bead filter needs that much room, so I figured I'd keep it even all the way around. I've had tanks up against the wall previously and hated it.

Yeah, If you have all that room I agree, away from the walls is best.

And it leaves room for projects like the one completed today. A custom tank deserves a custom power supply. So I tapped into the 30 Amp power supply in the adjacent wall meant to power the RV pad next to the garage outside. I think I'll set it into the wall though.

Love the turbo regals I have a 87 limited Turbo T and a 83 T-Type. They almost look identical to the maroon and white ones you have.

Out from the wall is a very good move if you have the space, I just tried installing a powerhead on my tank, and if I want it anywhere near the middle of the back panel I'm going to have to get in there!

Final setup mocked up at Universal Rocks before palletizing for shipment. The tree is 9 [SUP]1[/SUP]/[SUB]2[/SUB]' long.


I thought it looked a little bland so I called Stuart and reminded him I wanted a black bottom to mimic a mud substrate. He informed me that the picture was taken using a preliminary base sheet and that he had remade me a new substrate sheet that is considerably darker.




I'll see how it looks mocked up in my tank. If I want to go darker I'll figure something out. I think the new substrate will work well though.

This should give people an interesting alternative to tiles or a bare bottom.

I agree with you....it should be a great alternative to bare floor.... It's bare floor with a twist. My Universal Rocks rocky background for my floor is still in the box since Oct 2011 Someday my floor background will make it into the tank.
