How is the red tail Payara doing? I had one & really loved the fish, they grow so slow but they are so cool. One of my favorites along with your tiger!
The red tail is doing well. I would say it is around 10-11‘’ . They do grow slowly. This one has been with me for around 2 years and has perhaps grown 5'’ in that time. Strangely I have never seen the payara shed its fangs. I think it hides away during the proccess as it is more vulnerable. I always wanted to add a couple more as they are a schooling fish , but they are hard to come by especially at a decent size. IMG20251119185353.jpgIMG20251119185303.jpg

It's been awhile since I seen one so big wow definitely rare at that size! Manageable forever not like armatus that grow 2 feet in your living room 😆
What amazing fish keep up the good work & that tank is legend!

yeah they are completely different temperament wise to the armatus too. I highly doubt i could keep an armatus with the other fish i have! Had one before and it was like an attack dog

IMG20251121125540.jpgon a separate note my ocellaris bass just spawned for the first time with my 24k spider kelberi. i will try save the eggs today and hatch them out. I have done this before only once with flowerhorns so any tips would be appreciated. There are hundreds of eggs!

Another small update. Unfortunately lost the eggs to fungus, however I am more prepared for next time. I have set up a small 30L tank running off the main system should they decide to spawn again. Tigerfish is going through a growth spurt again. Eyeballing it at 17"-18"

I would put eggs in a ziss egg tumbler then ziss breeder box.
I would have areas with no current so eggs would get fertilized better. I had a hard time with ghost knifes eggs not getting fertilized.
Keep in touch that would be legendary to get hundreds of babies. Might be worth getting them there own breeding tank 😃

I plumbed this into the main tank . I will make adaptions to be able to run it independently by the time they try again. Next time I will add meth blue and hopefully get a better survival rate

Looks amazing!!!

2 questions. Is the glass just being held on with aquarium safe silicone and is there anything to hold it in place like a piece of wood underneath? Also are you using aquarium safe silicone for all the seams instead of fiberglass?

Thank you! So the answer to both of your questions is yes. The only thing holding the glass up is silicone. No framing or wood. I made sure to have around 50mm overlap between the glass and the panel on all sides which is entirely backfilled with silicone. Holds up the weight of the glass easily.

The bolts you see are for structural rigidity so I didn't need to use fibreglass. Simply seal internally like after assembly like a glass tank
