My 1000g fish bar ( predatory freshwater)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thank you! So the answer to both of your questions is yes. The only thing holding the glass up is silicone. No framing or wood. I made sure to have around 50mm overlap between the glass and the panel on all sides which is entirely backfilled with silicone. Holds up the weight of the glass easily.

The bolts you see are for structural rigidity so I didn't need to use fibreglass. Simply seal internally like after assembly like a glass tank
That's awesome. I've always wanted to try and build a small diy plywood tank but always been so nervous in doing so.

If you're doing a small tank I'd recommend just getting a regular one, unless of course you are using it to practice for a bigger build. It only becomes cost effective above a few hundred gallons IMO

Yea if I could successfully do a smaller one let's say 6ft x 3ft x 2ft and let it roll for a few months, then I can verify I have succeeded lol

The tank I made before this was was that size. I then converted it into the sump for this display. With only 2' of water pressure it's quite easy to build an adequate structure. Feel free to reach out when you are building and I will help where I can

Gotta get through the holidays first. Kids! Lol

Since its almost Christmas I treated myself to this 9" disk girl. I was worried that the curupira wouldn't approve, having the floor of the tank all to himself. I'm happy to say they don't mind each other at all. I will keep the thread updated on her growth too20251201_201741.jpg

Beautiful!!!!

So no fiberglass on seams, correct. Just aquarium safe silicone, just a really good bead.

I fibreglassed the sump seams for added security but honestly it's a pain in the ass to work with so I just siliconed the seams on the big boy.

Just remember if you do it this way, the structure has to be solid. At 2' height you won't have any issues as long as you brace properly and use wood glue on every join
