tell me what you think, any ideas on how to get rid ot the trumpet snails?

If you kill all the snails at once the ammonia level may kill your fish! I know someone who keeps red-tailed Botia in his tanks, they stay hidden in rocks and even under the gravel in his tank and only come out at night and they are natural snail killers. They are also mean and very quick. You might be able to introduce some after dark and the two species might never interact. If they live, they will knock down the snail population. If not, expensive snack!:naughty:

That is a stunning setup and shoal, your red bellies look healthy and your fake plants work really well in there. Like people said…upgrading is inevitable if your going to keep them all in good health and alive. What filtration you got on that sob?

That is exactly what I was going to suggest.
Instead though, put the veg into a big jar and sink it into the tank. It gathers many more snails, as once a snail has finished snacking in the night, instead or moving away from the plate it chills in the jar. The piranhas can also not disturb the veg if it is in a jar.

Man....I thought that that jar was a good idea too, but had a bad experience with it (I posted about it in lessons learned) :WHOA:

What do you think about a piece of pvc pipe with lettuce or something in it ?
Maybe cap off one end and attach a piece of rope ???

Ill try the jar thing, anything to lower the snail population, ill try the botias too, but adding fish to a really overpopulated tank is tuff , looks like I will be getting the 180 prob by end of july early aug. My filtration is a large wet dry filter rated for 200 gallons, the prob gonna move that filter over to the new tank and make a new one for the 120. I'm also gonna add 2 emp 400's and a large canister filter to teh 180 , prob a fx5 .
