my 125 ca/sa community tank update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wish i could get a bigger tank, but its just not possible in apt., I will look out for 180 and split them up. I would love to have a basement and do a fish room, with pairs and individuals eventually. but everything just about was grown from small 1.5 to 2 inches together, and i know from experience tha you can do a community long term with numbers and site breakers. I had a monster 15" dovii that accepted tank mates for years so if you can do that with a fish like that anything is possible. I guess i could get rid of butti and 2 of the red devils if it was a problem. But i get attached to fish and can't trade them like baseball cards. If it came down to it i would do just male dovii or Male Festae as they are my favorites. Hardly any aggresion at all just normal postering so I don't see it as a problem. I also feel that if your going to try a community I find it better if a red devil or a big vieja is the dominant fish that the tank is calmer as opposed to a parachromis. Its all down the road but all they really care about is eating. lol. Hey i added a 3.5" umbie and he was totally ignored as a non threat and the red devil or any of the bigger parachromis could probably eat him if the wanted to. The meanest fish is the grammodes, he is always grumpy and a bully but he uses the caves and decor more than anyone.

I fully understand, sad part is they are going to make that descion for you. Even though a 125g is considered a large tank by most, for cichlids it really isen't. Over half of those cichlids you have in there would rule the 125g solo or as a pair. The only reason they have lasted this long is there are so many, but as they get larger it won't last for much longer. Either be watching craigs and pick up some tanks, or sell off the ones you don't want and buy more tanks for the ones you do. It is your responsability as their owner to insure they have the best and if you can't provide it you need to do the best for them. With cichlids people tend to be a impulse buyers off the start until they relize what they have gotten into. You are at that point. Their lives are in your hands, do the right thing or instead of going to new homes you will just end up with a descent amoutn of shreded fish.
