My 125 CA tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well stocklist change already. The devil proved to be a bit too much for the carpintis and made them hide. She is currently in the 55 gallon I have. She is starting to turn to the dark side and I am glad I caught it before things went wrong. The 55 gallon is going to my dad so either she will stay in the 55 with my dad or go back to the LFS. Anyways I was worried about my poor little carpinte. One is not looking so hot(the supposed female) and the male looked fine but he would not leave his cave. So I broke a piece of algae wafer and placed it just in front of his cave. After a while he ate some and after even longer he started to explore. he found the female sulking in a separate cave but instead of biting her he just hovered over her. Then I saw the little guy come out of his hide. I poked my face near the glass and expected him to flee but he swam right up to me. Im sold. Im positive there will defiantly be carpinte in my future.

I also added two female sailfin mollies who were with me nics and they are doing well. These are some of the bravest fish I have ever seen and are the perfect dither fish IMO. The meeki are hilarious. Even though the carpinte are much larger than them they trail my male around the tank flaring their fins and gill plates. It's almost as if they are making sure he isn't doing anything wrong.
The tetras although are working well now simply do not grow large enough so i will be substituting them for silver dollars somewhere down the line.

Midevil or not, that is still going to be a sweet tank and fun to watch when they all get bigger. Those Meeki's sound like they have some personality already, I also really like your set up, though I'm sure there is a nightmare trying to catch fish in it lol.

What are you using to filter the tank?

Right now it has an emperor 400 and an xp2 canister filter on the tank. the tank came with 2 emperor which looked disgusting and after vigorous cleaning only one would work to full potential. The xp2 is from my old 55 gallon setup. I also have an aquaclear 110 which is out of order until the new motor i ordered comes in. The plan is to eventually have either 2 aquaclear 110's and an xp4 canister or, 1 aquaclear 110 and an fx5 canister and I am leaning toward the latter. But, in due time.

Stocklist change again. in order to take some heat off of one of the carpinte I have decided to add my nic pair to the tank. i was skeptical if they would get along but they have claimed a cave on the far right of the tank. i was a bit worried that the carpinte male would be too much for the nics but if I have learned anything about nics it's that they will defend their caves quite viciously. The pair teamed on the male and sent him packing. They have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the new 125.
