My 125 Gal Tank Build (Pic heavy)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not transferring the gravel since I will be putting pool sand in this tank. The lava rock will be coming over as well as some new driftwood accents. Fish are all small and there are 2 oscars, a green terror, and 2 pictus.

I too really liked that design. It allows my wife to sleep at night knowing that everythign is well supported.

I had a similar switch with my Oscars first from a 75 to a 125, then from that to a 320. Each one I did the same, using the old filters and even all the water from the old tanks to seed the new one. Never lost a fish because of it.
Nice job on the stand BTW.

Awesome. Exactly what I planned to do.

Thanks. The tank now has the new Marineland Double Bright LEDs on top and some driftwod...

Now I just need the sand to settle some more and the fish will be in. Even rinsing the pool filter sand through a pillow case and into bucket and such still left some dirt residue. After 2 water changes, most of the cloudiness is gone and I figure one more tomorrow and fish should be good to go.

how much did you spend on all the materials. I want to do something similar because i am also purchasing a 125 without a stand

2x4s - $15
MDF - $25
Plywood - $15
Screws - $14
Top trim - $15
Bottom Trim - $25
Paint - $24
Hinges - $5
Handles - $7
cut wood for door trim - $4

I could have shaved a few bucks here and there with different trim, non-premium 2x4s, plywood instead of MDF, ect.

Nonetheless I think it looks better then the base stands for the 125G which start around $250 so I figure I made out with a better stand perfectly set up for my needs.

I REALLY love the large doors. I set it up and transferred my fish tonight and placing the filter and such was MUCH easier with the large doors.

Great job man. That's great that the wifey helped you along with the build as well  and it looks really nice!

Thanks guys. Everyone that sees it in person is amazed I built it considering I am the type of guy who normally can not even hammer straight ha ha

the butt crack is showing. just like a plumber. if the crack isnt showing, no hard work is being produced.
