Yeah I'm sorry but huge and rectangular IS my ideal pond. It looks PIMP.

In these pictures 5 of my largest koi are not in the pond. They were in a holding tank awaiting going to a koi show.I could keep many more koi in my pond (at one time I had 70) but then they will not grow as large.I try to keep only about 20 koi and sell one every time I add one.I added 7 fish this spring from my last trip to Japan so I'll be thinning the herd this month.

so you live in the US, but you go to japan to buy koi and bring them over? how? by plane? doesn't it cost a lot?

I meet my koi dealer(USA KOI.com) while he is on a buying trip to Japan. I buy my fish through him. He ships them back to the U.S., gets them through customs etc.He then quarintines them and ships them to me.It is more expensive then going to a US dealer's shop. But my wife and I love to visit Japan and buying fish is just part of a great vacation.

Heh... Koi Dealer almost sounds sinister. Like you'd meet him in a dark alleyway, and ask if he's got any K for sale.

They are called koi DEALERS for a reason. For me Koi keeping is an addiction.

And I can easily see how. If I had the room, I'd jump at the chance to house Koi.

beautiful fish! Awesome specimens. I noticed that you live in Ohio, which freezes during the winter, so with the tarp, how cold does the water get? And how much energy is used to heat the pond or the amount difference you pay in gas? As I want to build something like that in California, and its not nearly as cold here, but it does drop the the 30s at night for a few days out of a year, and I would want to know how much my heating bill will cost me :)

Best,

Wes
