Great looking setup, love the sand and all the fish. I can't believe you don't have any aggression problems other than the occasional fin nip!!

Awesome looking tank, I have used black sand, and now I have white sand, but I had never thought of mixing it. Looks cool.

thanks everyone. ya the only aggression im having is the ornate biting the bowfins tail. you would think it would be the other way around. most of them have been together for along time now. im guessing 2 yrs. once in awile if a fish goes in the jags cave he will nudge it a little with his mouth like giving them a gentle push.

Awsome tank, nice fish.

I think that the jag won't lighten up. The way I see it, the butti is the boss in that tank. Even though it doesn't look like it, the jag could be stressed.

the butti is not the boss in the tank. the jag is and the butti and festae are about equal but far from the the jag. i dont think any of my fish are stressed. they seem to be quite happy. any fish could snap at any given time but seeing there all adults im hoping this will not happen.

ya i think he meant butti.
The LFS around here sell them as Buddha's sorry didn't know the real name. But either way I always wanted one cause the LFS had one in it's 600 gallon for over 10 years now and he is huge. and about 3 months ago I bought one. then I started getting into datnoids . He chased the datnoid around constantly and my female jd chased around the buddha constantly. so he had to go.

Sorry to troll this thread but I just wanted to ask about the butti, how long have you had it with a majority of them, what size did you get him. Does he ever beat up on anyone?

your not trolling. i got him when he was smaller and hes been in that tank for around 2 years. no he does not beat up on anyone. hes quite layed back. i always hear about these crazy buttis and how mean they are but since this is the only one ive owned i have not expeerienced this behavior.

I love the substrait! Do any of those cichlids pick on the ray? I hear it is a bad idea to mix them, even in large tanks. Some people seem to have success at mixing though.

glad you like it. to awnswer your question besides the little tail niipping from the ornate biting the bowfin once in awile everything else is fine.
yes just about all stingray sites will say not to mix them with rays. but from what ive seen my cichlids dont even look at him.
