hi, thanks for the quick replys!

blksubykid - I cant find your post abouut your background :( what type of cement did you use?

maknobi86 - Thanks man, it isnt even finished yet! it was so easy to do, but messy.
ive seen vids on youtube but none of them really state what cement they use.

the main thing im worried about is if the V8 pondseal degrades over time, then my water is in contact with cement and it wipes them out due to leeching chemicals and whatever.

does cement leech chemicals? or just raise the PH? theats the real question really.

and then click more threads, I should only have 2! Its about my 60gal

Oh and I used Quickcrete
1st layer was very thin, best described as watery
2nd layer was a bit thicker
and the 3rd layer was pure thick concrete

Hi again, i found some better cement at BNQ. it was £4 and will cover the 4ft background easy. i made a watery mixture of cement and coated it over the background, this is only the first coat, i will put the second on tomorro.

i will keep you updated.

Thanks for the compliments on the background, its actually been fun so far.

so this is the 3rd coat of cement.. it was gettting some cracks in it so i moved it into the conservatoy where its alot colder. i went over the cracks with more cement and it looks good.

when this drys im going to try to draw some algae on with some pencils.. if that dont work i will look for some green chalk to colour some of the rocks. or even food colouring? it sounds safe if we can eat it.

once that is done... im going to leave it in the garden for a week to let it weather abit, also going to soak it and hose it when i can.

after that.. i will apply the pond sealent over it.
