#1. filtration, more bigger, more water purity the better!! #2.Softer water is always a plus... U can never go wrong with dropping pH, but only problem is u have to keep the pH levels consistant or else pH swing can cause problems.. I've always kept my cichla between the range of 6.5-7.2.. But that's through peatmoss or alot of driftwood in the tank.. Do minimal water waterchanges when trying to be consistant.. Mayb 10% weekly until they get to like 7inches bcuz by then they become hardy! Then less stress on u.. =-) temp should always be above 85+ just to avoid disease such as ich.. As far as nitrite, nitrate & ammonia levels.. U should know already because u have been in this hobby for a good while... Another plus is to have heavy flow in your tank because I have noticed they love to swim with heavy current in the wild and in front of my bulk heads.. LOL...
Everything else bradda will be in place as well as I know that u are a good keeper of fish! Just don't slack on juvinile cichla.. Or ur heart can be broken... If u have any other concerns in the future, feel free to pm me anytime ~mike
Oh do not over feed.. If u decide to feed feeders occasionally. Be sure u feed only what they can eat.. Because spit up food can cause params to spike and cause heavy breathing and stress! Which can also end up heartbroken.. Hope this basic info helps u out!
