My 1st real Wolffish....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had a wolf fish for 1 night. He then jumped out of the tank. In want another 1 some day.

Wolffish do not appear to be very aggressive or territorial. They will eat what fits in their mouths until their bellies get huge, they will try eating things that don't fit in their mouths if they are hungry and they will defend themeselves if attacked, but they won't start a fight.

They problem is that they are almost always hungry and that when they defend themselves that they take no prisoners.

shekes I agree. When they do something, and actually attack they can be devastating. Very fast powerful fish, with massive teeth. But they generally are not aggressive, going around picking fights etc.

I'm talking about mals, I had a wild caught mal that wasn't aggressive.

An aimara is a different story from what I've seen.

Wolf fish are VERY aggressive! Here's a bite one took out of my hand the other night, while cleanning his tank! Tried putting a Chaca Chaca catfish with him he bite it. They are VERY territorial. This just a common wolf fish, hoplias malabaricus.

It doesn't look too bad actually. Just a little bit worse what my Crenicichlas or even an Oscar can do. Crenicichlas appear to get grumpy with age. Maybe wolffish are the same way. There are some little corydoras with my wolffish that continously bother the wolffish and the wolffish never seem to bite them. I think the wolffish know that they are too crunchy and try to snack on convicts instead.

This guy is about 3 inches, last night i watched as he tried to take down a feeder half his size(he bit it in half)then he disappeared in his"cave" for the rest of the night.

my wolf ate my 2 corys the first night, like i said some wolfs are very agressive and other can be timid.

I put a convict on my Hoplias tank one day and after that, he refused to eat dead food during 5 days... It correspond to the time he took to kill the convict: they never give up !!!

Congrats on your first wolf. Do you know from where it was collected?

Wolves can be down right boring if you don't condition them right and have the right setup. But if done rightly, they become very interactive. All of my wolves would greet me as I walked into the room, begging for food.

What do you think when you tell that ??? What sort of setup do you have ???

Thanks ;)
