I'm with you on this Rockbass. While patternless dels are still nice looking, the stripes are what makes me like them so much. I wouldn't personally buy a patternless one. I'd go for a sen instead. :)

IM NOT PARTIAL TO PATTERNLESS DELS BUT IT WAS DIFFERENT THAN THE REST SO I GRABBED IT.. PLUS I DIDNT WANT TWO WITH ALMOST THE SAME EXACT PATTERNS SO ITS NICE TO BE ABLE TO TELL THEM APART VISUALLY

Nice Delhezi.

As long as he quaratines the goldfish, I don't see anything wrong about it. Just add other food to the diet such as tilapia, shrimp, pellets, worms and so on.

Yes you are right, you can quarantine feeders, but I personally have had things go very wrong from parasites and roundworms. I had trouble 2 of the times, treating, so I prefer to make it a zilch chance a "situation" comes in via even a quarantined feeder gut. I advised against a possible source of dealing with the hardship I had. The risk far out weighs the show you get. I think a quarantined comet is more of a risk than filets or pellets. Pretty cool to see bichirs barrel roll a thawed fish filet too.
Agree to disagree, I don't want to deal with it, when I don't need to.

Yeah, you did say they are not common either right? Good to see you found a fish you wanted, dels are one of my favorite bichirs. Very fun to watch, expecially after a waterchange, or when you feed them.

yea in my area there arent that many "different" fish being sold. other than the norm being sold at like petland and petsmart. and by norm i mean like oscars and such. So i was pretty excited when i walked in and saw the poly.

Are Dels picky eaters? they are both probably still stressed from the moves but the big 1 has only eaten 1 goldfish in about 3-4 days and the little one hasnt eaten anything at all. should i take the goldfish out and use it for an opportunity that when they get hungry to feed them brine shrimp?

ALSO are sinking pellets dangerous with gravelk subsrate?

i used to keep PBass so i pretty much had to starve them if they were into eating feeders before they would take a pellet. also had to make sure i had atleast 1 other fish in there already pellet trained so they saw him eating the pellets. are bichirs pretty much the same or different because they are bottom fish? any advice to get them to take pellets or other kinds of food?

Quarantining goldfish does nothing. They still contain an enzyme that destroys vitamin B in the fish that eats them. If you want to use feeders use tetras or guppies or platies, or better yet, ghost shrimp.
As for getting them to eat, I've yet to have a bichir refuse food. My 2 dels that I got in January ate mysis shrimp within 30 seconds of being released, and they were shipped to me so had been in a bag for over 24 hours.
Try mysis, bloodworms, raw shrimp, earthworms, ghost shrimp. If they're not eating any of that, give them a few days and try again, just remember to remove uneaten food.
BTW CuTTy, is there any reason why you keep yelling?

If they are not eating try a beefheart cube, they shouldn't be able to resist. The dels should come around in a couple of days, I bet they are just getting used to the new surroundings. As for pellets, it is easy to get them onto pellets, expecially sinking. Try breaking up hikari massivore pellets, or even try hikari carnivore. My delhezi have a liking for floating hikari gold, which is actually for my severum. My bichirs eat broken up massivore, shrimp, smelt, chopped walleye and perch filets, that I catch from the lake, and coming up here in the spring I will be netting emerald shiners to freeze for them, they spawn in the shallows by the millions in the spring. Worms are good too, to add a variety for their diet. Even after feeding the "fleshy" foods, they have no problem eating massivore nuggets, some of the species actually seem to prefer it over some of the other foods I suggested.
and lol.. I was wondering, also what the yelling was all about!

I like the stripless one, Kind of unique. Most delhezi I see at my LFS has stripes.
Nice pickup! congrats

I like both types and would love to have one of each. Anything besides Sene and Ornate is hard to find around my area. I did get a Retro marked as a Del not too long ago tho!
