i got my 2 jags the first of july, they were both about 1.5 to 2 inch and they started growing like crazy. now one is about an inch bigger (about4.5) than the other and doesnt have very good color and is pretty much grey and washed out. the smaller of the 2 has great color solid black lines with the purple tint. how come they are so different? and if anything i would think that the bigger and dominate would be the better looking of the 2.. is this a possible male/femal difference? need-less to say im not too happy with how the bigger is tunring out, i may just sell it and let the smaller better colored one rule haha

most likely imo blood lines and genetics..and imo is in my opinion if you didnt know =P

Don't be too hasty. Let them grow out some more before deciding to ditch one. You could be breaking a possible pair or getting rid of a Jag that could be a good looking adult. Give them a few more months and then make your decision.

Agreed. The bigger one probably just hasn't developed it's adult pattern quite yet - give it time.

+2

the only thing im worried about is the bigger is beating the Crap out of my smaller and better looking one. i wouldn't be too happy if i lost the good one and the big one stays washed out. i also need more growing room i have the 2 jags 1 lyonse 2 freddie 2 moto red tiger and 2 cichla. i bought 2 of everything planning on keeping the better looking out of each pair and having a nice looking show tank with a ton of color.. has anyone heard of jags being late bloomers for color? i have had 3 others and they have all looked great from the start

Jags don't usually have great color or patterns at 3.5" or 4.5". As they grow and mature, a male's pattern starts to spread out more evenly and the purple sheen starts coming in more and more. If you want to sell one one then go for it, I'm sure either one will be fine. If you got them together, they're probably siblings anyway. Btw, are they fighting?

they arent really fighting. the big one just beats the hell out of the smaller one hah

That could be the contributing factor to why it looks dull and washed out, it is most likely stressed. Make sure it has a hiding spot.
