My 2 New Baby Retics

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks guys. Miles, I've tried krill and pieces of tilapia but they didn't go for it. Maybe I made the pieces too big. I'll give those mysis shrimp a try.

try soaking freeze dried krill in with the black worms... works pretty good

Thanks for the tip, I'll try that tonight!

The lighter one is slightly smaller. It looks fine but I can tell it's not as active and not as hungry as the other one. Early signs of stress?

Good looking rays. What size are they, and did you get a male, and a female? Looks like we got a rays about the same time, and they appear to be about the same size. It will be neat to see your updates as I watch mine grow also.

I was able "trick" them into eating some frozen bloodworms today. I mixed 1 cube of frozen bloodworms with the same amount of live blackworms, they ravaged the food so quick, only a couple bloodworms were left after they were done. That might work for you also?

Since I'm also new to this, I can't answer your question about the smaller one being inactive, but my larger one is kinda similar, but she's fat and healthy.

Can't wait for more updates! Cheers!

Cool, what kind of rays did you get? Pics? Mine are about 3" and 4". That's good advice, mixing the bloodworms in with the blackworms. What decent ray wouldn't enjoy a good wormmix!? The little one is eating and active, just not as much as the other one. What kind of tank/substrate/filtration are yours in? What temp is your tank?

I have a thread in the stingray forum titled "First Rays". It's a couple below this one, it has some pics. The tank is bare bottom, and I keep the temp around 84. It's a 20 gallon tank with a whisper 40, and a very large sponge filter. I do a 25-40% water change every 2-3 days.

So, the smaller one is still feeding very slowly and the other one is growing like she's on steroids. I was going to move them into the 40g next weekend but I'm thinking of leaving the smaller one in the 20g by herself for a little longer so she doesn't have to compete for food. Sound reasonable?
