It's possible your cleaner was captured using a sedative like cyanide?... (cant remember if thats the one) as some of these fish end up dieing suddendly as a result later on.

Can't say for sure, but he surely was acting normal. Swimming all over, not hiding, eating, and cleaning. Not behaviors usually associated with that, but who know.
