Another update; The 90g I purchased for a sump is not going to work. Though it fits under my stand without any problems, it is just too tall to allow me to easily service it. I'm afraid if it is PITA to service it I might not clean filter pads, socks etc as often as I should.

You give me hope and inspiration for my dream tank circa 500 gals. I'm thinking about a steel tank, something like 12' x 30" x 30"with two, 6 ft pieces of plate glass. I have the room in a basement.

I found a 40g breeder I'm going to use for a sump. Hopefully this supports the volume I want to move through it. It leaves me plenty of room under my stand for pumps, canister filters, etc. I think it will work out nicely. I will post a few pics once I start modifying the tank to use as a sump.
Wow, I really like the look of that stand. It seems very solid and the use of pocket holes would make assembly pretty fast. I have thought about replacing my ugly all-glass type pine stand with a really nice homemade one. You should consider going with a mostly male Hap/Tang setup. That tank could be stunning stocked with Rostratus, peacocks, Fronts, Featherfins.... A male rostratus colored up is one of the most amazing fish out there imo. Share your sump building as well please. Good luck!

Funy you mention a Rostratus, I have been drooling over a few of them at my LFS. They are interesting to watch and very cool looking fish. I'm seriously considering them as I think about stocking.
