Why do we keep cichlids? Because they do backflips and wash dishes. If you're really quiet you can hear them talk of world dominaton in German accents... Weird, I know, because they are of Central american descent.

it's like asking why some people like bichirs - what's so nice about a log shaped fish that eats and chutes around most of the time?

cichlids have the most complex and interesting behaviors out of probably all fish that we keep.

but at the end of the day it's about personal preferences...
