I'm also just wondering, does any one know if there is any sort of LED lighting system that is completely submergible? coz i'm thinking of adding some light underneath my land area so that i can actually see whats happening back there without needing to press a flash light to the side of the tank...
Dude 3" of soil is NOTHING... those roots will definitely grow through if they can get through the holes. I just pulled this crypt from my 33 gallon, this is like two months of root growth...

Yeah, i know 3" of soil is really not that much at the end of the day... but with all those layers to get through, and reasonably smallish holes in the acrylic i'm guessing it will prove a little tricky???
If it does go through though, i'm not really too fussed either... will just help give the tank a more natural look and feel although it will also probably require trimming from time to time...
Thanks, as long as i know they are available, i'm sure i'd probably be able to find a China version of them some where in Hong Kong... i'm actually about to head out to the fish market here to go look at stocking ideas + equipment etc...
So hopefully i'll find some LED lighting system that will work underwater... coz one of the types i saw online seems to run on AA batteries? which isn't too bad i guess, although i wonder how long it will last?
I think it would actually look really cool to have the roots growing through. I'm sure the plants would enjoy being in some tank water too... Lots of natural fertilizer.

Thats a good call... the roots most probably would enjoy it, although i wonder what it would be like trying to remove them once they get through the acrylic holes...

Hahahaha, thats true... especially since i was planning on getting some pearl celestial danios, being so small, i'm sure they would really enjoy it...
------UPDATE------
Also, as far as updates, i found a submergible LED lighting strip yesterday, although i got a bit carried away and bought a 12" one without thinking of how i was going to get it into the tank...
Long story short, i got it some what in place after a lot of struggle and cuts but realized it would be a pain to to take out if i put it in to place... so took it out for now and planning on getting a 6" strip which should be easier to deal with...
