real nice tank you got

Thanks for the compliment :)

Fantastic Job and great step by step progression

Thanks... but almost wished i had taken more pics the last few months so that the thread would be more complete...

Great looking paludarium. It's filled in incredibly.

Thanks, and yeah, the plants really filled out the top incredibly well... i was even a little surprised myself at how well it filled out... now just gotta hope the bottom fills out the way i'm hoping it will...

I WANT ONE !!!!!
HOW DO I GET NSTARTED???
IM LOOKING IN A 10 GALLON JUST FOR TETRAS FOR THE WATER AND MAYBE A CRAB OR NEWT????WAT U THINK BUT 1ST HOW DO I START???

^ Thats a very tough question to answer... in all honesty, its all in the planning... i mean if you look through this thread you'll sort of see the steps i took to get where i did...

But i also should mention, that doing this in a smaller tank would be much more difficult... as the space would be rather restrictive to be very honest...

^ Okay, don;t know what happened to my other reply from this morning... but will re-write it again...

Basically, i would first advise you trace out the inside of your 10G's footprint, then on that tracing, work out how much above water land area you want to create...

Once you have a drawing / tracing of the area you want turned into a land area, go out and get a piece of acrylic cut out in that shape... but make sure its going to be thick enough to hold up the weight of the land area... so maybe about 0.5cm or more thick...

Once you have the piece, drill lots of small holes in it, so that the water can pass through the bottom to help prevent the plants from getting water logged and rotting the roots away...

While your at the acrylic shop, you'll also need to get a few "L" shaped pieces of acrylic cut as well, this will be the support for the land area on your tank, so depending on the size of the land area you may need 3 - 4 pieces made...

If you have any other specific questions, let me know and i'll try and answer them for you...

wow that sounds amazing!!!!i was thinking of adding enough water to put some tetras in it def. a newt a fire belly newt, wat kind of soil do i use for the plants and were did u get the waterfall??and how did u make it run like that??

For soil i used ADA Amazonina II soil, although with soil, its more a personal choice what you want to use, if your keeping plants under water, then obviously you'll need a substrate suitable for plant growth...

As for the waterfall... i actually made it myself... went out bought a bunch of slate pieces and then smashed them into suitably sized pieces and then using an aquarium safe silicone slowly built it up piece by piece, while testing it after every few layers to make sure it would stand properly, and fit in the space i needed it to...

Once i built the waterfall, i tested it under the tap in the bathroom to make sure i sealed all the holes and so that i could make sure the water ran down it the way i wanted to...

So i would say, overall i think the waterfall took me the longest to sort out / make, as i had to wait for the silicone to dry in between each test placement to make sure it didn't fall apart on me... although i also have to admit it was a lot of trial and error... in fact if you look through this thread, i think i tried out 2 other waterfall designs before coming up with this idea... since the other 2 didn't turn out nearly as nice as i was hoping and just looked ugly...

wow sounds like a very good project and i ithink i knoiw wat i want now =) ill post some pics later on wen im done but 1st need to go to the stopre and get the 10 gallon tank thank u!!!

^ No problems... just glad i was able to help... and yes, be sure to post progress pics as you go along... we need more threads like this to help other members out with their small project builds...

Even though i know most of us would love to have a paludarium like that 1700G Stingray river setup...

Dario dario, one of my favorites! Is that U graminifolia growing as a carpet? The only CP I can think of that would grow in the is Drosera binata and maybe some Utricularia. Nepenthes would get way too big, unless you got a dwarf species.
