My 265 gallon Chocolate and Geo Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here is a video I took when I finished it. Only thing that is different now is the pump that you see in the video is 925 GPH and wasnt strong enough for the three tanks so I got the 1744 GPH which worked out perfectly.

Awesome tank. Are the matten filters essentially huge sponge filters ? Id live anything that would cut electric costs....googling right now

JasonsPlecosCichlids JasonsPlecosCichlids did you create a build thread for this ? Im really interested in learning more about type of filtration

Read throuhg this but dont fully understand the whole concept. Did you have to drill the tank ? Do the foam pads look like crap after a while (mulm and just crud built up) ?

I always liked the look of a nice school of silver dollars, if you got some large enough they should be able to outrun the chocolates.

So after a month of running, all my tanks are done, but the foam I got was junk. It deteriorated after about 30 days. So today I bought the foam from Swiss Tropicals. I got foam from foamfactory.com but its not the same type at Swiss. I went back and forth with Stephan and sent him videos of my setup, etc. So now I have to do this all over again but will be better in the long run. But while they lasted it has been nice. Here is my best looking tank, Madagascar cichlids.

No drilling. I just siliconed the acrylic pieces in and wedged in the foam. The pads kind of blend in, especially if you get black and I noticed on one of my tanks which have a plant light, green algae grew on it and the fish loved it. Thats another thing, the foam isnt strong enough for the fish to eat off it like the ones are Swiss are. The build up should be cleaned when you do a water change/gravel vac but they say, depending on setup you dont have to clean it for up to and over a year. The more gunk on it the better.
