my 270 setup and overflow question

I would be worried about burning your pump up. If the power goes out in the middle of the night for a few hours and kicks back on and your shipon doesn't restart your pump will run out of water fast. Your tank will not over flow as you have set it up but you will be buying a new pump as they don't like to run without water.
Most people will drill a small just below the water surface on the return line and sometimes overflow. This way when the power goes out they will suck air at that level and stop the shipon, not over flowing the sump. Then if the shipon is working right it will start automactically when the pump turns back on.

I see exactly what your saying but IM kinda so far into this project now it would be miserable to turn around and make something else out of it. Here is what I got so far. Maybe I can also add a smaller true overflow in the tank to work incase there is a power outage. I could make it out of .5" pvc just to keep a little water going. would that worK??
Yeah if you have a smaller overflow that is not running a full shipon, you should be good. Also the full shipon isn't going to stop until it grabs air so don't forget about that.
I would lower the intake on the sump pump or run a little more water just to be sure not to run it dry.
The best thing to do is when everything is running, have he sump a little low on water. The turn off the pump. A little water from the tank will keep flow but should stop. Then you can fill the sump to the highest safe level. Then turn on the sump pump and the level will drop a bit. This is your highest safe running water level. Higher then this point it will over flow with a power outage.

Epond...One last question and im sorry but I want to get this right. Do you think this would be a better option if I redid the design to make it a true overflow? Would this design work if I refabricated it to look like this?
And if I did it this way would the rest of my overflow sump idea still work?

Hmm that I'm not totally sure about, I don't have enough exsperince with over the tank overflows, I've focused more on drilling the tank overflows. The info in the overflow sticky should give you the answer.
