Question:
What is the coral in the 4th pic down on this list headed "LAST!!"? And what kind of fish is in the 10th? That's a really cool fish! And the mentioned coral (or w/e) is gorgeous! Really awesome tank! So glad I went saltwater seeing what all you can do with it!

The Coral is called an Elegance coral or (Catalaphyllia jardinei) and the fish you are refering to is called a Lawnmower Blenny or (Salarias fasciatus) it has many other common names as well. Thanks, yeah SW is def they way to go.. I have a couple a FW tanks but I don't nearly enjpy them much as the SW. SW tanks can have so much diversity its insane..

Can you tell me a little about the Coral beauty? I've heard so often that dwarf angels are not reef friendly, every time I see one in a reef tank I have to ask. Does it nip at anything? Did you use any particular method to select that species or did you just sort of cross your fingers?

How is the mandarin doing? Do you have a sump with a surplus of pods? Or do you supplement?

I haven't seen mine nip a single coral since I've had him. I bought him a year ago, if not longer.. I didn't have many corals in the tank when I got him. I think just the frogspawn and the Xenia. Maybe that has something to do with it. I'm not really sure. I have heard people say they are not reef friendly as well, but I haven't seen anyone post hard evidence of them doing serious damage either. I'm sure some do nip corals here and their, but I don't think the damage is really significant unless the frag is really tiny. Maybe I got lucky or maybe they just have a bad rap.. I'm not sure.. If he ever started to do damage to my corals, I'd just trade him in for something else..

The Mandarin is doing good so far. I've had him for about 2-3 months and haven't had to supplement any food. I still have a healthy supply of pods running around when I check my tank at night. I use a red flashlight so they don't take off and hide. I waited until my tank was a year old before looking at getting him for the fact that I was worried about the pod supply. I felt that it was established enough and picked him up.. I don't have a sump on this tank unfortunately. I keep a good eye on him though to make sure he looks in good health, I have supplemental food on standby if he ever looks like he's not getting enough food. So far the pods have been able to keep up with him though.

I see. We'll I've wanted a dwarf angel forever. It's one of the reasons I started a salt tank. I got too deep into corals too quickly though, and now I would hate to buy an angel to see it damage any of my corals. I have read of others having dwarf angels nearly kill certain lps - fleshly LPS like Acans, Blastos, Candy cane, etc... I would love an angel, but I think I love my corals more...

Yeah, You could always have your LFS throw one in their frag tank and see what it does.. Have them leave it in there a couple of days and then go back and watch him once he is comfortable in the tank.. Other than that Could always get one and then return it if he it acts up.. It may do some damage before you catch him though..

I've never seen my coral beauty nip at SPS or LPS or Large Softies on the flipside I've seen him destroy star polyps, nuclear green and purple polyps and a dersea clam - yet leaves the electric flame oysters alone - go figure.
