Hey guys, This is my first post here.. Just wanted to post up some pics of my Cichlid setup.

This is my first real Cichlid tank, (semi-n00b) and most of my advice came from a self proclaimed Cichlid expert at the local Petsmart, and friends. So, don't flame me too hard. :P

Size: 29g
Filtration: 1 Biowheel 150, 1 Biowheel 100 (Got the 100 for cheap, so what not)
Temp: 80deg
PH: As close to 8.0 as possible

Most of the in tank decoration came off the shelf at Petsmart, there is a big section of PVC pipe underneath the fake driftwood logs. The fish seem to have plenty of personal/hiding space, although they always seem to stick together. This is the Friendliest school of Cichlids I've ever seen.

My current background is a plain piece of cardboard, because I don't know what color to paint it, maybe you guys can assist. :)

For substrate I used crushed coral, It seems to help keep the PH at a desirable level.

Fish: They all came from the "Misc Psuedosomethingorother" tank, and I was told they will all get around 5" max. This is about all I know about the fish. Hopefully they won't get TOO big, otherwise I'll have to give one up.

Would I have room for a small bottom feeder? I was looking at some small African catfish today.

Oh, and I plan on sticking with the 29g, because tearing it down is a pain in the arse, and I live in an Apartment. :)

Got pic's? Would love to see it.

Cool they appear to be Africans! May find more info and good stuff in the african cichlid sections! Lots of good information about them there.

^i agree. red one- metriaclima estherae(red zebra), it gets about 5 inches.
cant quite see the blue ones. i think the one with the light blue and just the poking out may be a pseudotropheus socolofi but i cant tell for sure with these pics.

okay. i looked at the link and you have a metriaclima estherae, melanochromis johanni, and a cobalt blue metriaclima zebra.

These guys?

Any idea if they are Male or Female? Will they work well together? Honestly I just bought the fish w/o doing any research. I hope they'll work out. :)

johanni is male, the red zebra looks to be female as is the cobalt blue zebra. they will all be fine together.

if you start to see any territorialism you may want to throw a few more mbuna(africans) to mix it up. sometimes in a smaller tank a dominant fish will start killing off the others. if you add more fish it helps mix it up. with africans you want to overstock, but not by much.

It seems the fish are inseparable.. most of the time. I've yet to see a hint of aggression. Think they'll spawn?

Do you think my filtration will be sufficient?
