I had dwarf hairgrass fro www.aquariumplants.com and it can to my house in plastic pots. They took a good 2.5" of gravel to cover up the root system and my cichlids ate the grass within 2 days. Pretty lame. So you dont have any plant anchors in the sand?

You gotta remove them from the pots, separate the blades (as best you can, small clumps are ok) and make sure all the synthetic material in the pot is picked off if there is any. Trim the roots down to about a half inch (this will encourage new growth in the roots). Then just plant the grass to about half an inch above the root. No anchors... They root system grows quickly and anchors the plant as it would in nature.

I would love to get the same footprint but six feet long. Would be a crazy tank.

With only 12" in height we could make one pretty easy/cheap. You would only need 1/4" acrylic ;) just sayin... Tank and stock look steller bro! I am jealous of that hairgrass!

I keep telling you to throw down for a co2 system and start one up! You're welcome to free hairgrass from my tank and I could help you do everything. :D

Gave the hairgrass a real close trim yesterday... I'm 98% sure this will encourage lateral growth, but anyone who's grown a hairgrass carpet before is welcome to chime in!

Looks like my kind of tank! Looks great. I really like the fish, and that is a sweet piece of wood. The dimensions of that tank are perfect. I gotta find one.

Thanks guys. View from my couch:

Not bad, eh?

I'm actually a bit jealous... that tank looks like it would be perfect for building a paludarium or doing a planted tank... the heights not too tall, and its not too deep but def. more than long enough...

It'll be interesting to see how the progress comes along... especially with the grass on the bottom of the tank...
