My 330 Center Overflow project

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I also want to ask, with this tank I really want the "crisp" water look, anyone recommend a good mechanical media for this? I have been told pillow stuffing, which seems to work fine on my 100g but I always like to ask and see what else is out there, I could probably sacrifice the second bio tray for more mechanical for a while, I will have a VERY light stocking on this tank once it gets set up, 4-5 fish all a foot or less! They are going to be in heaven!:headbang2

i just re-read my post and its too late to edit, it will be 4-5 fish when it first gets set up, as my cichla grow this will become their grow out, i think they can thrive in this tank for quite some time, sorry if there was any confusion

I like it a lot! I didn't like the center overflow when I first saw it but the tree idea sounds awesome! Are you just going to do the tree trunk inside the tank? Or are you going to make leaves and branches that come out of the tank. I think that would be sweet! It would be a sweet centerpiece for a room in the new house!

Thank ya! The design is still up in the air but I know I can't go too far out of the water because of the canopy, but I do plan on doing a little above the water line while still letting water go into the overflow. I am just ready for the bark to get here so I can get started!

It has been a couple of days since I last updated, no new pics. Still waiting on the cork. And all I have been able to do is climb in and clean the inside with a magic eraser, those things work wonders. I also cleaned the outside of the acrylic with some windex. Cork should be coming soon, then the project will get rolling along :headbang2

OK so what may seem like a small update is actually the biggest update besides actually bringing the tank home. The cork arrived which means I can now start on the overflow cover (tree)

Pic 1- two 30 pound boxes of cork
Pic 2- open box view
Pic 3- up close of one of the pieces to show the texture and why this is going to make a great 3d cover
Pic 4- open box view with some of the flat pieces removed to see one of the big tubes I ordered

I am thinking of doing a big pvc frame and siliconing the cork to the pvc, still not sure how good silicone will work with the cork. I will test with some small scrap pieces and see how that works, but if that doesn't work I really don't know lol, any suggestions?

Edit: I also want to add after soaking this stuff over night I have noticed this stuff is VERY buoyant so the pvc frame is not just going to attach it the overflow but also serve as a sinker
