The light is about 20-24 inches from the top, I found it gave the best shimmering effect from this height for my tank setup. The back is black acrylic.

i honestly dont remember, but pretty sure it was the 30W one...i had to but a 120V plug from hardware store and wire it in...only three wires, simple.
i've had them since the tank was up...made a makeshift mount for them....I actually have three mounted across but only use the middle one...i think it looks more natural
Not sure what you meany with the wiring in a 120v plug though. Definitely looking into these. I love the centered light with the shimmer effect. Looks so natural.
