My 4 larger loaches

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I bought 2 in 2005 when they were both 1.5" now one is at least 10" and the other is 6". I guess this will help with how long they take to grow.

Nice clown loaches OP. I hope you don't mind me sharing pics with you. There aren't that many giant loaches and you got some.

I have never seen the split stripe before even on huge ones. are they a special collection point or something?
when loaches get bigger than 8.5" their stripes will split.

Nice fish but why are they so pale? Do clowns get that way when they are older? Or are they that way just because they are out of the water?
clown loaches grow pale as they age. Here is my super star 10"

Buy them at a larger size. I used to have around thirty and ended up choosing the ones that kept growing after a few years. Most of these were 7-8 inches two yaers ago, I feed massivore tilapia and shrimp. Some of my clowns never grew into years of time and those are the ones I would usually get rid of. I've also noticed when there are less fish and more swim space they get a lot thicker. These were in a 300 gallon for about a year and got super thick.

Very nice, how long did it take to grow them to that size?

One of the 9 inchers was 6 three years ago and the guy before me had him for 2.5 yeArs mthe ten was 8 about two years ago and he is 5 years old, one of the nines is 19 years. Old I bought home from a guy four years ago, Who bought them fifteen years before on his birthday, I forked over 175 bucks.

Loaches grey out as they get older, and they use that as a dominance display from what I understand. I also think food has a lot to do with it. So the bars are the same they just have grey line going through the middle some days it's missing other days it's readily visible and it's weird it will shift from Loach to Loach they will have a fight then one day the one that was totally grey will become totally black n orange againagain

Thanks Carpsalmon for the quick reply,

I did not mean to HJ your thread with my little guy's :) just wanted to show what I was talking about....

The LFS I used to go to had a schoold of 16-18 of them in a 700gal tank at their door. The big ones were well over 15" and roughly 9-10" high and 3" thick. I use to visit the place regularly and never saw that detail.

And I thought I had alot of experience with loaches after keeping them for many years :D
