Yea, that's basically it. It's a pretty simple method.

My feeling is that a Calcium Reactor is NOT the way to go. An inch or two of live sand will automatically give you the same benefits without the cost of the Calc Reactor, or having to "dial it in".

A deep sand filter in a refugia between the sump and the return is, in my opinion, another great idea. Simple, effective, good benefits all around. You can also put a light over the refugia and have it on during the evening hours for additional pH buffering.

I'd say if you want a really simple setup, just liverock, livesand and a protein skimmer are all that's needed. I've used that combination innumerable times and it works beyond expectations. Coral growth is basically limited by the amount of light.

Only do water top offs with Reverse Osmosis water. Only use kalkwasser (calcium water) if you are using an automated system.

Need to keep the fish load down too!
