I think a snake that big would have to swallow either larger pieces or a hell of a lot before it caused digestive problems. But I would worry about it getting in his eyes, nostril vents, and under his scales.

Off the sand ASAP!

Eh, the only time I wouldn't worry about sand impaction if the herp has high metabolism, high acidity stomach and quick digestive tract. With boids, they have low metabolism and slow digestion.

But yeah, I have to agree with the eyes and nostrils.

I cleaned the sand out, today and am on my way to the store to get proper bedding.

Good to hear! Lets get some updated pics when he's all settled in.......

Couldn't decide on anything that I liked...didn't want wood chips or saw dust. Didn't like the peat moss, etc...

I just went with good old paper. lol! We have a huge roll of it, here at the house. I just cut it to size and laid down 4 - 5 sheets.

Still better than sand.

Absolutely better! I personally don't use peat moss or any of that other stuff for my pythons. Just good old paper or the Repti-Carpet. Both are real easy to use and to clean up after.

Know what works EXCELLENT if you can get ahold of it...
Corrugate (yes, like what they make boxes out of.) You can usually get it from packing places or print places (places that print box labels and such) by the roll for pretty darn cheap. It's thick and sturdy enough that it doesn't shred instantly if it gets wet. and it looks a bit better than regular news paper.
Tried it once and loved it. Unfortunately the little print place I got it from went out of business.
