My 500 Gallon tub

the pump runs up to the potted water plants. acts as a biological filter. and when I do water changes i just turn the valve on the bottom and fill it up with my irrigation spring water. I put a screen on the discarge hole so there's no escapies. the spring water stays 75-degrees all year long

that's a great idea. That is one of the most simple setups I've seen and the plants as a biological filter is great for your water. If I were you I'd get a bigger powerhead and run the water over more plants in a larger area. You could also just throw some plants in the tub to help with filtration but you probably don't want to deal with the mess.

yea the plants would over grow and would be to much maintance. And would would reduce my water space. Root system would grow into the mesh over time probably also. but thanks for all the comments

I have been thinking about doing something like that for a while... if only i didnt live in the city No space to do it around here
