My 55g Community...what you think?

beautiful... love the rocks..

Yeh I know about the heaters. One of them stopped working for some reason, one's a 200W, and the others just a 50W. I've just kept them all in there for now. Trying to find a decent 300W which won't empty my pockets right now. The when it comes to transferring everything into the 84g, I'll sort the heaters out properly.

i see that it's recommended to have a 125g tank for his stock of cichlids...wat's the maximum for a 55g anyway? i thought overstocking is good for african cichlids.

Personally I like it :)

Very nice decor you got going there is it going to look like that in the 84g as well?

Thanks very much! Not sure about the decor in the 84g yet. possibly something similar, but with more open space for the peacocks, or I might have a rock pile of some sort in the middle (depends if I can get hold of enough holey rock), so that it looks somewhat like a reef....
Can anyone suggest some ideas which they think would look good (and be somewhat like lake malawi)?

Thanks

I'm not sure about the overstocking issue. I've been told by plenty of sources that somewhere around 15 africans is not an unreasonable number as long as there's plenty of rock work and the filtration is adequate.

that can be misleading as well. Many people say overstocking is helpful for mbuna, they are correct, but there is no magic number. It depends on the type and size of the mbuna you are using. Mix that with other types of Malawis and it is even more of a generalized statement. The stock list will determine the number. Each fish changing that number. I cannot give a simple number to go by.

However as you stated filtration is key.
