My 55gal Sump Idea?

Simplify Grasshopper...
Many sump designs out there..the ones that work the best, filtering and service are the simplest. Least amount of dividers, media containers that let you get at areas that would need cleaning..How would you clean under your bio???
I thought your drawing looked pretty good, just what you drew needed work.

why the wall before the pump hybrid? would that not leave more chance for a run dry?

and do you use egg crate to hold scrubbies up off the bio rings and heater?

im looking to set up something just like this .. just wanted to have a better idea on what to do ..

Sorry i just seen this.

But the wall has alot of uses.

  1. The most important reason is that it is failsafe to keep a good portion of the media wet just incase.
  2. It also blocks any detrius (that will build up in time) from being sucked up by the pump and redistributed to the tank.
  3. Bubble trap
  4. Keeps media from sliding over and fouling the pump.
And yes on the egg crate. I used 2 2x4 panels on this sump. As well as peices of pvc pipe to seperate the levels and hold the drip plate level.

If some pics would help I can take a few.

yea if you can easily tank some it would be nice .. i think i have the idea down .. but it never hurts to make sure

move the pump all the way over so the water goes thru the media then up the return line. uv filters are pretty damn expensive, not really a "must have" either. I just bought one for my saltwater tank and it works well, never even bothered using it for freshwater. i guess i'd just rather use the outlet for another pump...

my UV are not inline .. they are in tank .. just like a heater only a little bigger .. so under the scrubbies i would put my heaters and UV they would fit without much of a problem .. i would say i would only need 3" of water .. so i would make that last wall about 5-6" tall so that the heaters and the bottom 2-3" of scrubbies would be underwater
