Probably gettin my first tank sunday and wondering if this setup of fish are able to work together:
Orange pike cichlid
Oscar
2 EB Jack Dempseys
2 Convicts(I'm pretty sure they wont survive but they only cost like 3 bucks a pop and they breed fast....;))

Overcrowded but with 75% water changes weekly and a good turnover rate...Maybe?

why would you doubt the survival of the convicts? they are among the toughest, hardiest cichlids around . . . it's your EBJDs that are more likely to not make it . . .

I don't think your setup will work, long term . . .

if you want the Oscar, then, maybe you can add the 2 convicts, or the Pike cichlid, but I doubt you could do all three

if you want the Pike cichlid, maybe you could add the 2 convicts or the Oscar

if you want the EBJDs, don't add anything else for a while, then maybe you could add some smaller cichlids, but I wouldn't add a pair of convicts

for sure forget the ebjds, they are expensive and will be the first to die. im partial to the pike myself...how bout that and a pair of severums of your choice?

To clarify convicts are cheap and since i have heard mixed reviews (feeders/aggressive mates) i figured buy 2 different sex and try it out. Why no jack dempseys? What is a severum? How about this fish i saw at the local fish store today labeled "Salvini"?

salvini are pretty aggressive despite not being that large...the issue you have is space, with the oscar and the pike in there, you need to be very selective with what you do, because there might not be enough space for both
