Why do you think those puffers kept dying on you? Was the brackish water difficult for you? How about weekly water changes or pre-cycling the tank before you get the puffer?

I'd get a smaller FW species to live a few years, before you attempt the giant ones. How about some dwarf puffers?

Pufferpunk, what are you talking about? Petco told me that I could do figure 8's and GSP's together in my 5 gallon tank!!

Ok seriously...yeah GSP and Fig 8's aren't as easy as most chain lfs would have someone believe. I'm still startled by the fact that the closest wal-mart to me sells puffers. But anywho....they can all be great and relatively easy to keep IF one does enough research before hand and becomes familiar with the maintenance regimen that will be required. Oh and also the specialized dietary needs. Am I the only one who was flabbergasted when I saw a puffer on the label of New Life Spectrum's Jumbo fish formula pellet food? Has anyone ever gotten a puffer feeding regularly on pellets?

Not a staple food in any of my puffer's diets. I did catch a couple eating algae wafers though.
