My 800 Gallon Plywood tank build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is going to be awesome! Seeing other builds inspires me to keep trucking on mine! If this works I might wish I had went with a little less lumber on my build! lol. My walls are nearly a solid 3" thick if you've seen my build, but I am overbuilding for my own peace of mind. Would have been much quicker, and probably would have costed around the same to sandwhich .75" ply for my build. I'll be following this thread as I build mine as well. My water depth is around 3'-3.5', but the tank will hold 3500-4000 gals. That's why I wanted peace of mind. My expanse is far greater at 18'. That's why there's a ton of 2x4s litterally. Good luck, and keep us updated.

this is a sweet build and from what I understand it should be plenty strong. I have been doing a little research for a future build of my own. I believe it all comes down to the safety factor you want to build in. for some piece of mind comes sooner than others and here is just the case. sme have built tanks and stands that could hold 10X the load they actually carry but thats what it takes for their piece of mind. I like this build the laminating of the plywood does way more than double the strength every layer adds to the strength of the surface even if its a thin layer. besides it fills in any gaps on the surface of the plywood. keep it up man we are watching even though some are skeptics. I want to see the progress and the completion.

Hey all sorry for the delay getting back to everyone.

Skeptics are always welcome, they maybe right. It has been hard to find information about building a tall tank out of plywood.

I used 3 gallons of Sweetwater Epoxy Paint, 2 gallons of West Systems Epoxy, and 1 gallon of MAS Epoxy

The cloth is 6oz with 8oz cloth tape in the corners.

From everything I can find the epoxy and the fiber cloth does add strength to the tank. The T of 2x4s in the bottom and middle was added to help with bowing.

Nothing new is happening with the tank. I have the silicone work finished and just have to wait 2 weeks for it to set, then I will have the tnak but back up and I will start filling it.

Please continue to post any information you have. I do read it all and take it the info to heart and apply to the tank if needed.

Hey all,

Update, I am still working on it. I found a few spots that the epoxy or fiberglass did not seal for some reason, I have filled those and am working on getting it ready for a water test next week. I have not had alot of time to work on it with the holidays coming up. I will update with pictures when I can.
