Thanks Gigas.

It looks like the rounded tail is forskahlii and the pointed is Vittatus.

I thought Forsk and Vitt was the same species??

West1, Thats what I thought as well. I am still looking into this. At the moment everything is saying they are different but simalar enough for people to think they are the same.

This seems to be an ongoing argument in the community.

Yes, Kazuo seems to have what you would arguably call Forskahli.

The picture on the bottom of the first page is a vittatus.

Yes, vittatus and forskahli are the same according to documented research, and that the differences are just regional.

I do believe there are clear differences between the two when you look at these things as far as color, jaw shape, caudal shape, body girth, they do look totally different.

But, the main thing here is not how they appear, it is how these things are being classified by researchers. They do so by counting the sets of lateral scales from end to end and the number of lateral lines from top to bottom. I do not know the exact figures according to Cuvier and Castelnau and so forth, but I do know that they came to the conclusion that the figures matched when comparing FATF and VATF.

Brevis are from the bodies of water in Sudan.

Vittatus and Forskahli are from the waters in and under Niger and Mali

Goliath are from the upper parts of the Congo

and Tanzanie are from the bodies of water in Tanzania.

If you think about it, how millions of years ago till now and how over time the land changed and how water ways changed there, how these fish inhabit so many different bodies of water that are not connected anymore is just crazy, and obviously that is where the differences are coming from.

Food supply
type of water and water conditions
hostility and such.
all factors.
