Maybe a cross I think. He also resembles Pundamilia pundamilia. He is not a Kenya Gold though. I have those they dont look at all like that. I'm guessing on this one. Bit possibly a cross between the Pundamilia pundamilia and the Hippo Point Salmon. The shape is very distinctive of the Hippo. Here is a profile for Pundamilia pundamilia.

I Hadn't thought of chessboards! I think you may be right. How big is he?

The only thing is, is chessboards have 2 horizontal stripes. I don't see that on yours.

I think that is what you have. Very nice fish! I think he will color up more s he matures too. I would be interested to see what he turns out like.
