MY africian cichlid has a "Swordtail". Is this normal? Also, what is he?

A few months ago, he started growing this growth on his tail, and its getting longer and longer. the fish otherwise acts normal. Is this normal, or is it a sign of an illness? Also, anyone know what kind of fish this is? I've had this guy for a very long time, but i never bothered to ask.

the fish is a borleyi and the groth isnt normal.

Yeah thats not normal for red fin borleyi to get a "sword" like that. However it looks just to be a bit of extra finnage and kinda interesting if i do say so myself
