my alligator gar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The largest alligator gar was 275 lbs. That's like putting a random fat guy off the street into your tank (or pond) (or reserve) with luck, you will have one of the latter by the time he is fully grown.

Nice gar. Never seen a home aquarium with a school of pacu. Good luck with that one.

as richard said, the gar will go crazy.

firstly, nice gar!!

the heaviest human being was known to be 772½ lbs. that doesnt mean we all get that big right. same thing here. just cause one gator gar gets freakishly huge doesnt mean they all get equally freakishly huge. im not sure abt the average gator weight(im sure richard/sol can chime in on this?) but according to most of the educated guesses here on the forum i think it can be safe to assume they usually only got to ~5ft in captivity. that being said, it would probably be in the fish's best interest to be taken out of there. we're not flaming the thread starter, but it's just that gars are fish with specific requirements that should not be compromised. and the water looks a tad green, just my 2cents:)

Interesting combo...got any more tanks or a pond perhaps?

i feed them with koi food sometimes and sometimes live fish. but most of the time koi sticks. i dont get them used to life food because its quite expensive and rare to find
