A few months back my Amphilophus passed away. It hit me pretty hard because I had him for a long time. I wasn't even going to buy another tank, but when I saw him in store I immediately asked them to put him on hold for me. I set up my tank, let it cycle and plopped him in.
Even though he's gone, I wanted to share him with you.
*Note: These pictures were not edited, just resized. He looked much better in person and was very rich in color (or at least in the color he had). He had nice orange spots and the blue in his eyes was very bright.
Here he is the night I got him:
I let him go for a week or two before taking anymore pictures of him. His hump was starting to get pretty big.
Some people will just flush their fish when they pass away. This guy was way too big and I wanted him to have a proper burial. I buried him at my cottage along with some other larger fish (Panaque, Crenicichla, etc.).
He was a good 10" when he passed away. I think he was 2" thick (maybe a little more at the head). I forget how high he was, but he was certainly a big fish.
He liked to chase me from one side to the other. When doing water changes he would try to eat the python. He was a monster indeed. He bit my ex-girlfriend and she cried. I laughed. He made me bleed once or twice, but he would sometimes come up and let me pet him.
He didn't like other fish, but he was awesome. Rest in peace!
