i have an angelfish pair and they layed eggs in my community tank, but the next day they were gone, now i figured one of my plecos ate them or another fish so i moved the pair into a smaller tank by themselves. a little while later i see them cleaning a rock near the filter, and the next morning they are laying their eggs. but by the afternoon they are gone again... now i know that they are the problem at least.. eating their own eggs, gotta be on the look out next time and have them seperated after they lay the eggs, make an air flow near the eggs to keep them alive and hope for the best.

Could be the same sex and just laying.

hi, never tought of the same sex senario, makes sense, i have two angels and the male is the one who sucks and blows on the eggs to keep them ok but my male gets really stroppy if mum goes near, see if their is anything like that going on. i think the sort of angel is important to . some are ok temp wise , others are really bossy and bullie others. and if they are new at it eating the eggs and looking after them is confusing for some fish no matter what fish it is, they usually get it right after quite a few times.

I had 2 blood red parrots that did the exact same thing, ended up trading 1 for another 1, hoping it would be male, sure enough, he was, then it was finding bigger tank!!

some parents are just bad parents...

Domesticated angelfish are very bad parents, it's as if hobbyists always pulling the clutch and artificially hatching them over many generations has caused them to "forget" how to do it correctly. The only hopes you have of a successful clutch is to pull the slate (or plant or whatever they lay the eggs on) and incubate them yourself with an airstone and/or methylene blue.

you could have two of the same sex angels just laying eggs.
or
they could have been eggs that weren't going to hatch for whatever reason

i think i would let them do it a few more times to see if they ever let any stay long enough to hatch. then (if they continue to eat the eggs) i would put them back in the community tank and let everybody eat the eggs.

You're not supposed to seperate angel parents from their eggs, they need to be there to look after the fry. These videos will help you.

Part 1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBF4CfUCVpY
Part 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Fs6lhBn6V0

Also, check his page and the video regarding the hatching of brine shrimp which will be food for your angel babies(if you're successful).

ive never had to seperate any other pairs i had in the past, but i have seen others seperate them for a better success rate or to prevent the parents from eating them.

not sure about that, like i said, ive had pairs in the past, but i never had a successful spawn with this pair. the usually layed the eggs overnight or early in the morning so i couldnt see if one was fertilizing or not, but so far only one has had the egg pouch.

yea, that was my next plan, to put some air tube close by the eggs for ventilation, and probably something on the gravel so they wouldnt fall into the gravel.

i think this is about their 3rd time spawning, twice in the large tank, i thought it was another fish like my plecos that ate them but now that they are seperated its the same story. so yea, i need to watch them a bit more carefully.

thanks for the advise guys :D

UPDATE---

So its definateley male and female. its the same one laying the eggs all the time. they just layed another batch about 32 hours ago so i tried a different method. i decided to put a divider and seperate the parents and put some ventilation near the eggs to give them some air. today when i checked up on them maybe like 60% were dead white eggs. so im gonna try this again. im pretty sure they wont make it this round either. but ill give it another go at them doing alone, see what happens.
wish me luck.
